Dear Friends,
I am pleased to announce my candidacy for the Maryland House of Delegates, District 28, Charles County. With your support, I hope to fill the seat of retiring Delegate, Murray Levy. Like so many of you, I am proud to call Charles County home and the place where I raised my family. I want to see our community prosper, our quality of life improve, and our economy revitalized. As someone who has committed his life to serving this community, I can see that for our community to thrive now is the time for Common Sense Leadership in Annapolis.
The issues that are important to you are also important to me. Together, we can improve our transportation infrastructure, conserve our environment, maintain our quality public education system, create a business friendly atmosphere in Maryland that fosters employment opportunities and keep a tight rein on taxes. I understand how these issues affect you, me and our families everyday and I want to take our perspective to Annapolis. As our state continues to face tough economic demands, I feel the citizens of Charles County need a leader who will take a "Common Sense" approach to legislative decisions. My business and community experiences in the county have qualified me to fill this role.
I am no stranger to public service in Charles County. As the youngest President of the Greater Waldorf Jaycees, I was honored as the Outstanding President of the Year by the Maryland Jaycees. I am past President of the Waldorf Lions Club and past Chairman of the Charles County Board of Social Services. I served on the Waldorf sub-committee 20 Year Plan, and am currently on the Board of Directors for the Charles County Crime Solvers and active in Lions Camp Merrick, a camp for the blind, deaf and diabetic. I am also no stranger to making ends meet and living within a budget. For the past 28 years, I have worked in the profession of real estate and am the president of a real estate investment/management company. I know what it takes to survive in challenging economic times and I want to take that experience to Annapolis to serve the citizens of Charles County.
Franklin D. Roosevelt once said, "I'm not the smartest fellow in the world, but I can pick smart colleagues." As your Delegate, I will seek the advice and input from professionals and citizens from the county. I will get the facts and work towards solutions that benefit all. I will weigh each decision with Charles County in mind. The Boy Scouts of America say, "Be prepared and do a good turn daily.” As an Eagle Scout and your Delegate, I promise to serve by this motto. But, in order to make a difference in Annapolis, I will need your help. With your support, we can assure our friends and neighbors in the county that BUD HUMBERT will be THEIR “Common Sense Leader” and THEIR voice in Annapolis.
I leave you with one last quote that I think is especially appropriate in today's political environment, "When you can't make them see the light, make them feel the heat," Ronald Reagan, the 40th President of the United States.
